Zone Population Map
Server Sample: RP (High), PvE (Medium), PvE (High), PvP (High)
Sampling Period: 7/05/2005 12:00 am - 7/12/2005 12:00 am
Sampling Resolution: ~14 minutes
Parsing Method: We parsed the number of characters in each zone. Characters just passing through (seen for only one snapshot and not the next are not counted). Characters who were in 2 zones in an hour had both zones counted.
Data Filter: None
Sample Size: 50,464 zone counts
We used the zone population data and a bit of Photoshop to create the zone population map below.

Thanks for the kind words, Kazuo. Don't worry, we probably have enough material in stock for a year's worth of blog postings ;-)

How does this map match up with the graph given in this section?
http://blogs.parc.com/playon/archives/2005/08/zone_population.html
The graph on the link says that Teldrassil and Silverpine Forest are the lowest populated zones.
This makes sense from what I've seen in-game, Teldrassil and Darnassus are fairly empty places and most undead go to the Barrens rather than dealing with Silverpine.
But the map in this section has these zones colored green, not black. Which is correct number for the zone populations?

It's the pre-TBC version of the map. I wonder why silithus has such lousy population.
Contested high population makes sence as both horde and ally go there.
Horde capitals don't get as much love. Maybe the testing was done on an ally heavy server or the whole game is a little ally heavy.
Didn't realize moonglade was so low but it does make sence.
