Women’s health is an area in great need of innovation. Conditions that affect women are often asymptomatic and accessible methods to track them are limited. Women will, unfortunately, often not even realize there is a problem until too late.
PARC Innovation Services and Flexible Electronics researchers developed a concept for a smart sanitary pad that could help women to identify and treat conditions such as hormone imbalance and vaginal infection. Inexpensive printed electronics technology, paired with a modified sanitary pad, passively monitors key chemical and biological markers to provide immediate diagnoses and accordingly timely opportunity to take action.
